Drop in to Hue to catch the biennial celebration of their cultural past, with the Hue Festival. Art exhibitions, poetry recitals and street performances, all combine at Hue’s Citadel. These form representations of Imperial art shows and traditional plays. The Vietnamese government has postponed the festival to 2021. Interested tourists should definitely attend to take part in celebrating Vietnamese culture and history.

On the 5th of April in 2021, the Vietnamese will celebrate the annual Thanh Minh, or Holiday of the Dead. A festival part of cultural importance given to ancestors, it is also known as the Cold Food Festival. This is because locals have cold food on this day!

A few days before the date of the holiday, families will go to the gravesites of their deceased relatives and clean up the area. On the holiday, they visit the site, offering flowers, food, and incense. It is a good insight into Vietnamese beliefs and their respect for their ancestors. This holiday does not impact travel and costs.

Vietnamese celebrate the 30th of April every year as Reunification Day, marking the day the government of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) finally collapsed. This brought an end to the war and made way for the reunification of north and south Vietnam. It is a public holiday, and if it falls on a weekend, a public holiday will be observed on the following weekday.

It is the start of a two-day break, since the Vietnamese also observe Labour Day (May 1st). Banks and government offices will close, so tourists with any official work, especially Visa extension, must prepare adequately. Most shops remain open, and tourist areas will get a bit crowded. Due to the extended break, people return to their families. This may mean an increase in crowds aboard transportation.
