Anna and Sara had a few things on their bucket-list for a holiday in Cambodia, including experiencing the Angkor temple complex, learning a bit of the country’s history and relaxing before flying home. They managed to visit Angkor Wat and a few other monuments, and also to snorkel on the island of Koh Rong. They were pleasantly surprised at the young art scene of Battambang, and humbled when learning about the Khmer Rouge in Battambang and Phnom Penh. Their personal highlight? The quick stopover in Kampot, as the peaceful river town had a lot of charm and few tourists – just the right spot to unwind & explore!

Once called the Pearl of Asia, Phnom Penh was marred by the impact left behind by war and revolution. Yet, like a phoenix, it has risen from the ashes to become the hip and happening capital of Cambodia. Its crumbling architecture is as historically significant as beautiful, and the slow pace of life allures many travellers. With the the French colonial-era Old Governor's mansion or Traditional Music School, there are plenty of sightseeing options. And nature lovers can go kayaking on the river or trekking in Bokor National Park.
